What is in a name?

We’ve had many new clients that needed a web site setup but immediately ran into a major problem. Up till then they had nothing in relation to the Internet. So our first step is to find a domain name for them. But guess what, someone already had their company’s name registered with a .com Internet address. Thus we had to toss around other ideas to come up with something for them to use. At that point it becomes frustrating for them because they had automatically figured on using the business name for their domain name.

The reason we bring this up is that the longer you wait to get you business on the Internet, the harder it is to secure the domain name you would like to use. So our suggestion, even if you are not ready to setup a web site, is to check and see if the appropriate domain name is available and get it! We can do that for only $19 for one year.

Otherwise you might end up with SomethingThatSoundsSortaLikeMyBusiness.com as your address. There are other extensions if the .com is taken, but I always recommend business use the .com extension because most users type that in by default. Even if you are not a business we’ve had .org addresses that weren’t available that a group needed, so everyone should think about this right now.

Let us know and we can check on availability for you, for free!

It’s the first step to get our business or organization ready for the future.

Videography on the Internet

Videography is the newest trend on delivering content on the Internet. Once regulated to a few short clips shown in a tiny window in the browser, now with more Internet visitors having a broadband (fast) connection, it has become a good option for delivering even more content then you ever had before.

Advanced in compression techniques in the video files and new display technologies have also led to the more widespread on web sites. The most common one being Macromedia Flash as we bet you have seen many times before. Upon the first visit to a site using Flash, you are prompted to install the “Macromedia Flash Plug-In”, which allows your browser to then play the imbedded flash objects in the web sites page. From that point on any Flash object will automatically work when you visit a site using it.

Since this application is so widespread, one can feel comfortable using this type of product in your own web site. Practically any video can be imported to Flash. And of course there a multitude of things that can be done with the Flash programming application.

With tools like Flash, we can help you deliver your video content from you web site without you have to spend a lot of money for expensive video streaming services that other companies will charge you for.
